'My Perfect Secretary' Co-Director Ham Junho Was Booked in 2020
Production Team: "The Charges Are True... We Apologize for Causing Concern"
Controversy has arisen as it was belatedly revealed that Ham Junho PD, the director of SBS's Friday-Saturday drama 'My Perfect Secretary,' was previously booked on charges of special assault.
On the 13th, the production team of 'My Perfect Secretary' issued a statement saying, "We apologize for causing concern due to unfavorable news regarding Ham Junho PD," and confirmed, "It is true that Ham PD was charged with drunken assault and insult in early 2020." They added, "He sincerely apologized to all victims, and after forgiveness and settlement, he faced legal consequences," and explained, "The prior record mentioned in reports from five years ago was a minor offense unrelated to this incident."
They further stated, "Due to this case, Ham PD was disciplined with suspension according to company procedures and took three years for self-reflection and remorse before returning to directing," and asked for "the generous understanding of viewers."
Recently, an online community post claimed, "'My Perfect Secretary' PD was involved in a past assault incident." The post included a news report screenshot dated March 5, 2020, which detailed that a PD named A from SBS Drama Department was arrested on March 1, 2020, in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, for causing a disturbance by spraying soju on a passerby and committing indiscriminate assault.
The report stated that at the police station, he shouted at officers and used sexually explicit insults toward a female officer in her 20s. The police booked A on charges of injury, special assault, and insult, and considering his prior record, requested an arrest warrant, which the prosecution dismissed. After confirming that A was Ham PD, SBS stated, "We regard this as a serious matter," and "We will handle it according to company regulations and apologize for causing concern."
Ham PD returned to directing three years after the incident in 2023 with the SBS drama 'Beopjjeon' and recently co-directed 'My Perfect Secretary' alongside Kim Jaehong PD.
Meanwhile, 'My Perfect Secretary,' which premiered on the 3rd with a 5.2% viewership rating, recorded nationwide and metropolitan area ratings of 11.3% for its 4th episode on the 11th, with a peak of 14%, maintaining its position as the top Friday-Saturday drama and gaining popularity. The drama is a romance between Ji Yoon (played by Han Ji-min), the CEO of a headhunting company, and Eunho (played by Lee Jun-hyuk), her perfect secretary.
