Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) announced on the 13th that it has significantly expanded senior citizen jobs last year and this year, increasing the number of senior jobs by more than 1.5 times in the past two years.

According to Gangseo-gu, the senior job project has changed significantly since Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon took office. The number of senior jobs, which was around 3,566 in 2023, increased by 1,121 last year, and this year it rose by 746 compared to last year, totaling 5,433. Compared to 2023, this is a 52% increase over two years.

Mayor Jin, who took office through a by-election in October 2023, made efforts to create senior jobs, including establishing a dedicated senior job team in January last year. To improve not only the quantity but also the diversity and quality of jobs, 23.6 billion KRW was invested last year, an 18% increase from the previous year. The district supports a total of 65 senior job projects divided into four categories: senior public interest activities, senior capacity utilization, community project groups, and employment support.

Meanwhile, before promoting the senior job project this year, Gangseo-gu conducted training for about 500 participants of the ‘Seoul Gangseo Senior Club Senior Job Project’ at the Gangseo-gu Community Center starting on the 13th.

Mayor Jin said, “Having jobs for seniors is not just about earning living expenses; it is meaningful in that it allows them to gain vitality through social activities by interacting with the local community and also helps prevent social isolation. We will continue to focus administrative efforts and do our best to expand senior jobs.”
