Ottogi's Regional Soup Dishes HMRs
Gaining Popularity as Winter Comfort Food
As the season calls for warm soup to chase away the cold, Ottogi's 'Regional Soup Dishes' home meal replacements (HMR) are gaining popularity. Since launching the regional soup dish HMRs that capture the flavors of various regions across the country in 2019, Ottogi has been expanding its lineup. These products have received great response for allowing consumers to easily enjoy the taste of specialty restaurants at home without having to visit the actual regions.
In particular, the number of consumers seeking the spicy and savory 'Cheongju-style Pork Kimchi Jjageuli' and the rich, deep-flavored broth of 'Jongno-style Ox Knee Soup' has increased during the cold winter. Cheongju-style Pork Kimchi Jjageuli faithfully reproduces the taste of 'Jjageuli,' a traditional dish from Chungcheong Province, featuring domestic pork rib meat and aged kimchi simmered in a slightly soupy manner, resulting in a rich and spicy broth. To enhance texture, the content of kimchi and pork is increased, allowing it to be enjoyed in various ways such as stew or side dishes. Jongno-style Ox Knee Soup, ideal for nourishing the body, is characterized by its deep and rich broth made with thick beef bone broth and plenty of chewy ox knee. It contains tender and chewy ox knee and beef brisket without any off-flavors, and is even more satisfying when served with boiled somyeon noodles.
The regional soup dish lineup currently includes a total of 19 varieties: ▲5 types of tang (soup stews) such as Jongno-style Ox Knee Soup and Naju-style Beef Bone Soup, ▲9 types of guk (soups) such as Andong-style Beef Soup with Rice and Busan-style Kijang Seaweed Soup, and ▲5 types of jjigae (stews) such as Cheongju-style Pork Kimchi Jjageuli and Gwangju-style Zucchini Gochujang Stew.
Previously, Ottogi selected singer Psy as a model and released a TV commercial vividly showcasing the strengths of the products. The TV commercial, produced under the concept of 'Korea’s Representative Soup Restaurants,' features singer Psy displaying witty expressions and movements in a nostalgic alley setting, introducing various regional soup dishes. The commercial was praised for stimulating appetites by showing a mukbang (eating broadcast) enjoying delicious soup dishes at home.
An Ottogi representative stated, "The number of consumers seeking regional soup dish HMRs that warm the body during the cold winter is increasing, and with a diverse lineup, people can choose and enjoy flavors that suit their preferences." They added, "We will continue to introduce various products that highlight local ingredients and differentiated tastes from each region."
