Incheon Namdong-gu Utilizes Vacant Houses Left Abandoned for 30 Years as Open Parking Lots

Namdong-gu, Incheon announced on the 13th that it has demolished a vacant house that had been abandoned for nearly 30 years in the city center and created an open parking lot.

According to the district, the vacant house (Ganseok-dong 770-2) had not been managed for a long time, leading to frequent illegal dumping of household garbage and waste, which continuously caused complaints.

In particular, the presence of insects and foul odors, the risk of collapse of the deteriorated walls, fire hazards due to piled-up trash, and weakened security in the alleyways created overall problems that increased anxiety among nearby residents.

To resolve these issues, the district persuaded the owner and obtained consent in October last year to demolish the vacant house and signed a three-year free usage agreement. The site was then transformed into a safe and clean open parking lot accessible to all residents.

Park Jong-hyo, the district mayor, said, "Through this project, we expect to provide parking convenience to residents while greatly improving the urban landscape," adding, "We will continue to renovate vacant houses to improve the residential environment and city image."
