Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jung Kimyung) announced on the 13th that it will provide a marriage congratulatory grant of 2 million KRW to young couples in order to ease the financial burden on newlyweds, attract young people to the region, and encourage them to settle locally.

Eligibility requirements state that both spouses must be under the age of 49 as of the date of marriage registration and must have resided in Jeollanam-do for at least six months. In addition, at least one spouse must reside in Yeosu City from the date of application until the date of payment.

However, if either spouse has previously received a marriage congratulatory grant, they are excluded from eligibility.

Applications can be made starting six months after the date of marriage registration, and must be submitted at the local eup, myeon, or dong community center within one year and six months from the date of marriage registration, based on the address listed in the resident registration.

The city plans to review the application requirements and provide a lump-sum payment of 2 million KRW in the middle of the month following the application date.

A city official stated, "We hope this program will help young people who are postponing or giving up on marriage due to financial burdens," and added, "We will continue to support stable settlement in the region through customized policies for young people."

Meanwhile, last year Yeosu City provided marriage congratulatory grants to 803 young couples.
