According to Uijeongbu City on the 13th, the project aims to support the healthy and happy retirement life of seniors, increasing the number of participants by 603 compared to last year, with a total budget of 20.8 billion KRW allocated across 89 projects.
During the recruitment period from December 9 to 20 last year, a total of 14,673 people applied, resulting in a competition rate of 3:1 against the 5,000 selected participants.
This year, in addition to existing projects, new initiatives such as the management of picnic paths and urban gardens, the second branch of the cafe business group, the herbal tea packaging business group, and the management of electric vehicle charging stations and automated external defibrillators have been developed to provide a variety of jobs that meet the capabilities and needs of seniors.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun visited the Uijeongbu Senior Club (Facility Director Choi Jae-hyuk), the organization responsible for implementing the senior job project, on the 8th to check the progress of the project and encourage the staff.
In particular, the city plans to establish the ‘Senior Job Integrated Support Center,’ which will serve as the command headquarters (control tower) for senior jobs in the second half of this year, to promote comprehensive and systematic project implementation. The center will operate by remodeling the former Singok 1-dong Administrative Welfare Center (17 Balgok-ro), with the required costs covered by a special adjustment grant of 1 billion KRW from Gyeonggi Province.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun stated, “The senior job project is an important initiative that enhances the quality of life for our elders and allows them to grow together with the local community. We will continue to provide various supports so that seniors can enjoy a vibrant and happy retirement.”
