Gwangju City plans to suspend parking enforcement for 9 days from January 25 to February 2 in the areas around Gyeongan Market and Gonjiam Market, which see heavy use during the Lunar New Year holiday, and for 5 days from January 27 to January 31 in 327 no-parking zones within the city.

However, absolute no-parking zones such as △within 5 meters before and after fire hydrants △within 5 meters before and after intersection corners △within 10 meters before and after bus stops △crosswalks △children protection zones △sidewalks and bridges, and tunnels are excluded from the suspension.

During the suspension period, guidance-focused monitoring and enforcement will be conducted to ensure smooth traffic flow, and the ‘resident reporting system,’ which imposes fines without on-site verification by enforcement officers, will continue to operate as usual only in absolute no-parking zones.

Additionally, to minimize traffic congestion around the market area, the city will open 11 paid public parking lots (Gyeongandong, Gyeongan Market, Yeokdong, Sangbeoncheon, Gonjiam Drainage Pump Station, Gwangju Station Area, Songjeong-dong Village, Gyeongan Drainage Pump Station, Yangbeol-dong, Hogukbohun Park, Gonjiam No.1 Public Parking Lot) for free for 5 days from January 27 to 31.

Mayor Bang Se-hwan said, “We hope that the temporary suspension of parking enforcement in no-parking zones and the free opening of public parking lots during the Lunar New Year holiday will provide parking convenience to citizens and returning visitors, contributing to revitalizing the local economy and stabilizing people’s livelihoods.” He added, “We ask everyone to actively participate in voluntarily establishing parking order so that everyone can have a comfortable holiday during the Lunar New Year.”
