Choi Sang-mok, Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister as well as Minister of Economy and Finance, met with Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, on the 13th and said that there should be no physical clashes related to the execution of the arrest warrant for President Yoon Seok-yeol, urging, "I ask both ruling and opposition parties to jointly prepare a special investigation law without unconstitutional elements."
At the meeting with Lee at the National Assembly that morning, Acting President Choi said, "No matter what happens regarding the currently executed arrest warrant, there must never be any accidents caused by citizens getting hurt or physical clashes."
He added, "I have repeatedly urged related agencies as well. I also ask for efforts at the National Assembly level. And regarding the special investigation law expected to be discussed by both parties, I ask that a special investigation law without unconstitutional elements be jointly prepared by the ruling and opposition parties."
He continued, "When coming to the National Assembly, the hall of popular sovereignty, I recalled Thomas Jefferson's words that 'the only legitimate object of good government is to care for the life and happiness of the people,' and I believe that the National Assembly and the government share this goal."
Acting President Choi emphasized, "To provide stability to the people, restore a comfortable daily life, and promote economic vitality, the government will act as one team with all ministries pouring everything in. I also ask both ruling and opposition parties to join forces and once again request the leadership of Lee Jae-myung."
He said, "I believe the leadership of Lee Jae-myung, who leads the main opposition party, is crucial at this time," and called for the revitalization of the ruling-opposition-government policy consultation body.
Acting President Choi stated, "For the livelihood economy, the government is committed to early execution of 40% of this year's budget in the first quarter and 70% in the first half of the year," adding, "I hope the National Assembly will actively conduct policy consultations involving the ruling and opposition parties and the government in areas such as livelihood, economy, and trade."
