Gwangju City announced on the 13th that it has designated the Uchi Zoo Animal Hospital as a "Natural Monument Animal Treatment Center."

Accordingly, two veterinarians at the Uchi Zoo Animal Hospital will use the existing facilities and equipment to provide treatment for animals designated as natural monuments.

In particular, once the "Natural Monument Conservation Center," scheduled for completion at the end of this year, opens, Uchi Zoo will also take on the role of treating wild animals designated as natural monuments that have been injured in accidents. After treatment at the center, the animals will undergo rehabilitation and adaptation training before being released back into the wild.

To this end, Uchi Zoo plans to further enhance its medical equipment this year by purchasing an animal emergency transport vehicle, endoscope, blood electrolyte analyzer, vascular suturing device, and gene analyzer.

So far, Uchi Zoo has provided shelter for rescued Asiatic black bears from farms and otters rescued from the wild, and has protected and treated 74 animals of 7 natural monument species.

Sung Changmin, head of the Gwangju Uchi Park Management Office, said, "We will strive to go beyond simply exhibiting and displaying animals, and contribute to ecological circulation and species conservation through the rescue, treatment, training, and release of wild animals."
