Yangsan City to Expand Basic Livelihood Security Benefits
Support Amount for Four-Person Households to Increase by 117,000 KRW
Yangsan City in Gyeongnam Province will expand support for basic livelihood security benefits in response to the government's 2025 standard median income increase and the relaxation of eligibility criteria for basic livelihood security recipients.
According to Yangsan City, the 2025 standard median income for a four-person household will increase by 6.42%, the highest ever, and the basic living allowance support amount will also rise from 1,833,572 KRW to a maximum of 1,951,287 KRW for a four-person household.
Furthermore, following the 2025 revision of the National Basic Livelihood Security Project, the criteria for automobiles and support obligors will be relaxed to actively identify and support low-income households facing difficulties.
Specifically, from 2025, the criteria for automobiles subject to general property conversion will be relaxed from vehicles with engine displacement under 1600cc and vehicle value under 2 million KRW to those under 2000cc and vehicle value under 5 million KRW.
Additionally, the income criterion for support obligors for living allowances has been expanded from an annual income of 100 million KRW to 130 million KRW, and the general property standard increased from 900 million KRW to 1.2 billion KRW. The age for elderly earned income deduction has also been lowered from 75 years and older to 65 years and older, enabling more citizens to receive welfare benefits.
Yangsan City plans to promote the revised system through meetings with community leaders and provide training for officials in charge at eup, myeon, and dong levels to ensure that those previously excluded due to exceeding eligibility criteria, as well as vulnerable groups in welfare blind spots, can receive government support.
Kwon Myung-jin, Director of the Resident Life Support Division, stated, “We will actively promote the increase in the standard median income and the relaxation of eligibility criteria for the basic livelihood security system to expand the number of beneficiaries and resolve welfare blind spots.”
