Wonju City to Provide 1 Million KRW Support for University Tuition from Second Child Onwards

Wonju City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Mayor Won Kang-su) announced on the 13th that it will implement the ‘Special Support for Multichild Families (University Tuition)’ program, which provides university tuition support from the second child onward to reduce the economic burden on multichild families and create a birth-friendly social environment.

The ‘University Tuition Support for Multichild Families’ targets families with a second child or more, providing a one-time support of up to 1 million KRW within the actual university tuition payment amount, excluding scholarships or other support funds received from elsewhere.

Applicants must be children aged 24 or younger who are the second child or later in families whose guardians have been registered residents of Wonju City and continuously residing there for more than six months prior to the application date. However, the program applies to students enrolled in 2025, and for second children, it applies only from freshmen onward. Guardians or university students themselves can apply by visiting the nearest eup/myeon/dong administrative welfare center.

A Wonju City official stated, “In this difficult situation of continued low birth rates and economic recession, we hope that this expanded support will bring vitality to the local community.”
