Up to 2 Million KRW for Architectural Design Costs
Monthly Rent Support of 200,000 KRW for Up to 12 Months
Cheongyang County in South Chungcheong Province, which has been classified as a depopulation area, is providing support for housing construction design and monthly rent for returnees as a measure to address population decline.
The county enacted the "Ordinance on the Promotion and Support of Returnees to Cheongyang County" in August last year, the first of its kind in the Chungcheong region, to help returnees settle stably in their hometowns.
This project is a key policy of the county to respond to depopulation.
The support targets are heads of households who have moved to Cheongyang County within the past five years. The first priority is given to those who were born in Cheongyang County, lived there for more than 10 years, then resided in another city or county for over 5 years before moving back to Cheongyang (returnees). The second priority is for those who lived in an urban area for at least one year before moving to Cheongyang County (urban migrants).
The county provides up to 2 million KRW for architectural design costs when building a new house, up to 200,000 KRW per month for a maximum of 12 months for housing rent, and 5 million KRW for housing repairs. Beneficiaries are responsible for 20% of the costs.
The county plans to operate this as a pilot project this year, analyze the results, and continue to expand it.
The county also supports basic agricultural training and customized education for returnees and urban migrants through facilities such as the Returnee Farmers' House and the Agricultural Startup Incubation Center.
County Governor Kim Dongon stated, "With the enactment of the relevant ordinance, we have institutionally strengthened support for returnees. We will spare no effort to help returnees settle easily in the local community and start a new life in their hometown."
