Incheon City Expands Monthly Rent Support
Up to 200,000 KRW Provided for Youth Aged 19 to 39
Incheon City is doubling the duration of monthly rent support for low-income youth.
The city is recruiting applicants for the second round of the 'Youth Monthly Rent Support Project,' which provides up to 200,000 KRW in monthly rent support for 24 months to economically struggling youth, until the 25th of next month.
Starting this month, the city has extended the support period from 12 months to 24 months, and those selected since the second application began in February last year will receive retroactive benefits.
The support targets homeless youth aged 19 to 39 who live separately from their parents. The income and property criteria are as follows: for independent youth households, income must be at or below 60% of the median income, and property must be 122 million KRW or less; for original households, income must be at or below 100% of the median income, and property must be 470 million KRW or less.
In particular, Incheon City has extended the age limit by 5 years compared to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s temporary special support for youth monthly rent (ages 19?34) to allow more youth to benefit.
Youth who wish to apply can do so through the 'Bokjiro' website (ages 19?34), the 'Incheon Youth Portal' website (ages 35?39), or by visiting their local administrative welfare center. However, in Bupyeong-gu and Dong-gu, applications are accepted at the district offices.
Since the youth monthly rent support project began in 2022, 7,769 youth have benefited by the end of last year. The numbers have steadily increased: 1,381 in 2022, 2,532 in 2023, and 3,856 in 2024.
An official from Incheon City stated, "We hope that the expansion of this project will provide practical help to youth facing economic difficulties," and added, "We will continue to actively support more youth so they can worry less about housing costs."
