GS25 Sees 28% Increase in Delivery Orders
Snacks, Beverages, and Noodles Lead in Delivery Demand
Steamed Buns, Instant Fish Cakes, and Winter Protection Products Also See Sales Surge
Recent subzero cold waves have led to a surge in convenience store delivery demand and winter product sales.
GS25, a convenience store operated by GS Retail, announced on the 13th that an analysis of sales data from the 8th to the 11th of this month, when the first cold wave advisory of the year was issued, showed that delivery orders increased by 28% compared to the same days of the previous week.
The most ordered categories during this period were snacks, beverages, noodles, and dairy products. The categories with the highest growth rates in delivery sales were ▲ice cream (147.3%) ▲cooking oil (60.7%) ▲vegetables (43.6%) ▲frozen convenience meals (33.8%).
GS25 explained that the sharp increase in ice cream sales was influenced by the trend of 'winter ice cream lovers' who enjoy ice cream at home with heating on during winter. The categories of cooking oil, vegetables, and frozen convenience meals are interpreted as reflecting increased customer demand for purchasing cooking ingredients through delivery.
To meet this delivery demand, GS25 is offering a 3,000 won delivery fee discount coupon, card billing discounts, and prize events this month.
Meanwhile, due to the cold wave, GS25’s sales of winter protection products and winter food items also recorded high growth rates. Sales of food items such as ▲honey drinks (34.0%) ▲herbal drinks (24.3%) ▲instant fish cakes (14.4%) ▲steamed buns (23.1%) increased. Winter protection products (157.5%) and hot packs (117.6%) also showed growth trends.
Jeon Jin-hyeok, head of GS Retail’s O4O division, said, "As the cold wave continues, it seems that customers’ demand for delivery has increased as they want to conveniently purchase items indoors in a warm environment. To strengthen our competitiveness in the rapidly growing quick commerce market, we will plan delivery and pickup-exclusive products and add customer benefits linked with offline stores to quickly provide customers with the products and services they need anytime, anywhere."
