Gwangju Office of Education Develops 'Korean Language Learning App' to Support Multicultural Students

Scheduled for Distribution to Schools in Mid-May

The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education is developing the "Gwangju-style Korean Language Education App" to support Korean language education for multicultural students.

According to the Office of Education on the 10th, the development of this app aims to provide high-quality education to multicultural students in the Gwangju area and to reduce the learning gap.

The Office of Education plans to develop the app by the end of March, conduct a one-month verification period, and distribute it to schools in mid-May. The newly developed app will feature content focused on the region, offering a variety of information about Gwangju's history, cultural heritage, geography, notable figures, and events. It will also utilize animations and illustrations to help students naturally acquire the Korean language.

By leveraging AI (artificial intelligence), the app will support multilingual translation, writing, speaking, and handwriting recognition technologies. In addition to student mode, a separate teacher mode will be available, enabling classroom management and the creation of customized learning content for each class. The app will be accessible on tablets, mobile phones, and PCs.

On the 9th, the Office of Education held a "Gwangju-style Korean Language Education App Development Kick-off Briefing," where it explained the direction and use of the app, the importance of mother tongue support and voice recognition features, and the need for vocabulary learning linked to the curriculum.
