Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences (Director Lee Chang-hoon) recently achieved first place nationwide among 228 regional emergency medical institutions in the ‘2024 Emergency Medical Institution Evaluation’ announced by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, earning the highest grade of A.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare conducts annual evaluations of emergency medical institutions nationwide to improve the quality of emergency medical services. In 2024, evaluations were conducted on a total of 408 emergency medical institutions, including 44 regional emergency medical centers, 36 local emergency medical centers, and 228 regional emergency medical institutions.

Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences met essential evaluation criteria such as facilities, equipment, and personnel, and received the highest scores in the appropriateness of treatment for severe emergency patients, adequacy of dedicated medical staff, and reliability of emergency medical information, ranking first among 228 regional emergency medical institutions nationwide.

The institute has been designated as a regional emergency medical institution since 2016 and operates an emergency room. Compared to the early stages of the project, the regional transfer rate of ‘severe emergency patients (those requiring immediate treatment and in life-threatening serious conditions)’ increased by 120% in 2024 and by 60% compared to 2023.

This reflects the active efforts to secure medical staff and provide prompt and appropriate emergency care for severe emergency patients, meaning that local residents who visit the emergency room with life-threatening severe illnesses can receive proper emergency medical services nearby.

Director Lee Chang-hoon stated, “Operating an emergency room in a public medical institution makes it difficult to avoid deficits due to a shortage of essential medical personnel and profitability issues. However, medical staff are committed to treatment with a sense of mission to save even one more life, and the functions are maintained with the interest and support of Busan City and Gijang County.”

He added, “It is deeply meaningful to receive the result of being ranked first nationwide among regional emergency medical institutions for the emergency room that has expanded its functions through communication and cooperation with the local community. We will continue to take responsibility and make ongoing efforts to safely protect the lives of local residents.”
