Incheon City will remove the military boundary fences installed along the coast in the Seo-gu area to provide waterfront spaces for citizens.
The city announced on the 10th that it will officially begin the project to dismantle 2.7 km of military boundary fences around the Anam Retention Basin area in Oryu-dong, Seo-gu, starting next month. This project is based on the "Coastal Military Unit Boundary Fence Removal Project Memorandum of Agreement" signed in 2023 between the city and the 17th Infantry Division of the Army.
The city plans to start the basic and detailed design next month with a total budget of 2.8 billion KRW and carry out the removal construction next year.
Upon completion of the project, the city expects significant improvement in citizens' access to the coast, the creation of the Jeongseojin waterfront space, and momentum for establishing pedestrian and bicycle connection axes linking Seo-gu and Gimpo.
An official from Incheon City stated, "We are consulting with the military authorities on alternative facilities to replace the removed boundary fences," adding, "We will continue to promote projects that expand marine waterfront spaces to return the sea to the citizens."
