Overall Decrease in Fire, Rescue, Emergency Medical Service, and Life Safety Dispatches
The Changwon Fire Headquarters in Gyeongnam announced on the 10th the results of an analysis of fire, rescue, emergency medical service, and life safety firefighting activity statistics in Changwon Special City for the year 2024.
Last year, the average daily number of fire department dispatches in the Changwon area was 218, showing a slight decrease compared to the previous year.
By category, there were 536 fire incidents, 11,430 rescues, 55,793 emergency medical service calls, and 11,899 life safety activities recorded.
In particular, fire occurrences numbered 536, down by 22 cases (-3.9%) from the previous year, and casualties due to fire were 35 people (-20.4%), indicating an improvement in safety indicators. Property damage also decreased by 71.8% compared to the previous year. The leading cause of fires was negligence with 180 cases, followed by electrical causes with 170 cases, and unknown causes with 79 cases.
Rescue dispatches decreased by 8,817 cases (-43.5%), and the number of people rescued was 1,030, down by 629 people (-37.9%) from the previous year. Emergency medical service dispatches also decreased by 1,260 cases (-1.5%), and the number of transported patients was 29,053, a decrease of 2,066 people (-6.6%) compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, life safety dispatches increased by 21.4% compared to 9,795 cases the previous year, with bee hive removal dispatches accounting for the largest proportion.
Lee Sang-gi, head of the Changwon Fire Headquarters, said, “The overall decrease in fire department dispatches last year is thanks to strengthened prevention activities and a prompt response system,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to further develop disaster prevention and response systems to create a safe Changwon where citizens can feel secure.”
