According to Gwangju City on the 10th, the Ministry of Environment officially changed the designation of the area around 100 Bunwon-ri from a conservation zone to a water-friendly zone on December 5 last year, making it possible to obtain a river occupancy permit under relevant laws.

Accordingly, the city secured the foundation for project promotion by receiving approval for the river occupancy permit from the Hangang River Basin Environmental Office.

The area around 100 Bunwon-ri has been used as a sports ground by residents of Namjong-myeon since the early 1980s, and through this river occupancy permit, a foundation has been established to systematically manage and reorganize the sports ground. The site is expected to be transformed into a space that can significantly enhance residents' convenience and quality of life.

Namjong-myeon is an area subject to various overlapping regulations such as water source protection zones, development restriction zones, and cultural heritage protection zones. Currently, the Namjong-myeon Comprehensive Sports Ground is the only sports facility available for residents in the area. Therefore, the city plans to promote this project with a total budget including 1.1 billion KRW from the regional project funds within the resident support budget.

Mayor Bang Se-hwan stated, “Above all, starting with the approval of the river occupancy permit for the ‘Namjong-myeon Comprehensive Sports Ground,’ we will respond more swiftly and flexibly to regulations for the residents of Namjong-myeon who have suffered from overlapping regulations.” He added, “We will strive to create a premium sports facility that residents can truly feel and enjoy, enabling Namjong-myeon to develop further.”
