"Caring Through Art"... Yeongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation Opens 'Bokdakbokdak Winter Art School' on the 13th

Winter After-School Program to Overcome Low Birth Rates
‘Bokdakbokdak Winter Arts School’ Begins in Yeongdeok

The Gyeongbuk Yeongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation will start the special winter vacation after-school program for children and adolescents, ‘Bokdakbokdak Winter Arts School,’ from the 13th.

‘Bokdakbokdak Winter Arts School’ is a project to support overcoming low birth rates, following the ‘Weekend Art Outing (abbreviated as Yejunaduri)’ held in the second half of 2024. It provides cultural and artistic education for children and adolescents who need care during the vacation period.

The program was planned to offer cultural and artistic education to children and adolescents who are in blind spots of care during the vacation, aiming to cultivate children’s cultural sensitivity and provide opportunities to accumulate diverse artistic experiences.

The project consists of three main programs. The first is a classical instrument education program for children and adolescents called ‘Dream Ensemble.’ It targets elementary to high school students, with weekly lessons every Tuesday focusing on violin, cello, and clarinet performance education.

The second is the ‘Children’s Ballet Troupe,’ recruiting students from 1st to 6th grade in elementary school. Classes are held twice a week on Mondays and Saturdays, divided into lower and upper grades.

The third is the ‘Teens Dance’ program for 5th-grade elementary to middle school students, teaching modern dance and street (practical) dance. Street dance classes are held every Thursday, and modern dance classes every Friday, twice a week.

These three programs attracted great interest, with applications closing due to exceeding capacity just four days after recruitment began on the 7th. All classes are completely free, and the program is also transportation-friendly, operating shuttle buses for those with mobility difficulties.

The person in charge of cultural and artistic education at the Yeongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation emphasized the planning intent, saying, “‘Bokdakbokdak Winter Arts School’ is an ambitious first educational program welcoming the new year 2025. Although the preparation process since last year was not easy, we prepared it with a sense of responsibility as it is education for children who cannot receive care during the winter vacation.”

In particular, they expressed hope that “the winter vacation will not be boring for children and adolescents but will be a meaningful time to discover what they like and where their talents lie, and to grow.”

Starting with the Children’s Ballet Troupe classes on January 13, detailed information about ‘Bokdakbokdak Winter Arts School,’ which will run until March 29, 2025, can be found on the Yeongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation website.
