Soongsil University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation Signs MOU for 'World Humanities Forum' with Ministry of Education and National Research Foundation of Korea

The Soongsil University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation announced on the 11th that it has signed a business agreement with the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea to host the "8th World Humanities Forum."

The World Humanities Forum is an international platform where scholars from around the world share achievements in the humanities from various cultures and collaboratively seek solutions to problems facing humanity.


Since the first forum in 2001, it has been held regularly, and from the 3rd forum in 2014, it has been held biennially.


The 8th forum is scheduled to take place in early November in Andong-si, Gyeongbuk. Professor Kim Seon-wook of Soongsil University's Department of Philosophy will serve as the chair of the organizing committee.


For this forum, in cooperation with major domestic and international institutions including the UNESCO Korean Commission, Nobel laureates and world-renowned scholars of equivalent stature will be invited as keynote speakers. Additionally, presentations and discussions by humanities scholars from home and abroad will be held, along with a humanities popularization program that integrates the history and culture of the Andong region.


Professor Kim expressed his aspirations, stating, "Through this forum, we aim to widely promote the essence of the humanities, emphasizing creativity and critical thinking necessary in this era of great transformation, to Korean society and use it as an opportunity to strengthen the international humanities network."


Meanwhile, the 8th forum will be operated with a total budget of 910 million KRW, including 610 million KRW in government funding and 300 million KRW in subsidies from the local governments of Gyeongbuk and Andong-si.
