Former Chungnam Provincial Council Member Kim Youngkwon Announces Withdrawal from Asan Mayoral By-Election

"Nomination Retrial Dismissed...
Will Accept the Party's Decision"

Former Chungnam Provincial Council Member Kim Youngkwon Announces Withdrawal from Asan Mayoral By-Election Kim Youngkwon, former Chungnam Provincial Assembly member from the Democratic Party, held an urgent press conference at the Asan City Hall briefing room on the 10th, announcing his decision to withdraw from the Asan mayoral by-election.

Kim Youngkwon, former member of the Chungnam Provincial Council from the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 10th, "The retrial request for the Asan mayoral by-election nomination has been dismissed," and added, "Although it is disappointing, I will accept the party's decision."

On this day, former council member Kim held an emergency press conference at the city hall briefing room and announced his intention to withdraw from running in the by-election scheduled for April 2.

Previously, on December 30 last year, he immediately filed a retrial request in protest after the Democratic Party unilaterally recommended Oh Sehyun as the sole candidate, but it was dismissed.

Regarding this, former council member Kim stated, "Due to my shortcomings, I could not meet your expectations. I am sorry," and added, "Although there is much regret regarding the nomination process, I will humbly accept the party's decision."

He continued, "I believe respecting the party's decision is the way for all of us to achieve unity and victory," and emphasized, "I will not hesitate for the party's victory and the future of Asan."

Regarding his future plans, he said, "At this point, the most important thing is the approval of President Yoon Sukyeol's impeachment," and added, "I believe working for the impeachment is the way to support candidate Oh."

Regarding the suspicion of Oh's brother-in-law's employment solicitation, he said, "I have no idea who filed the report," and added, "However, I do not think it is appropriate to drag politics into legal issues."

Meanwhile, candidate Oh is suspected of having his brother-in-law falsely employed at a company located in Sunchang-gun, Jeonbuk, through his political secretary, Mr. A, during his tenure as mayor.

This by-election is being held as Park Kyungkwi, former Asan mayor from the People Power Party, lost his position after being sentenced to a fine of 15 million won for violating the Public Official Election Act.
