Enhancing Teachers' and Students' Ability to Actively Respond to the Digital Education Environment
Three Key Initiatives to Strengthen Digital Education Competencies for Talent Development

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education Research and Information Center (Director Lee Seong-hwan) announced on the 10th that it will continue to support various educational activities to strengthen digital education capabilities in schools in 2025.

The support projects of the Research and Information Center aim to enhance the digital education capabilities of students and teachers, enabling them to actively respond to the rapidly changing digital education environment.

The Busan Education Research and Information Center plans to strengthen digital education capabilities for nurturing future talents by setting three key tasks. First, to establish a ‘stable digital education environment,’ starting in March, the Busan education network internet line will be upgraded to 108Gbps, and wireless networks will be expanded to 223 classes in local schools.

Blended classrooms will also be additionally established in 169 classes across elementary, middle, and high schools. Smart devices will be distributed on a one-to-one basis to support digital education for third-grade elementary students, and school smart devices and charging storage cabinets will be installed.

The SW·AI Education Hub Center, scheduled to open in January, is expected to contribute to ‘cultivating students’ digital literacy.’ The center will conduct digital education experiences and support SW·AI clubs. It will also operate camps to enhance AI ethics awareness and hackathon competitions for middle and high school students.

Additionally, the ‘Metaverse Education Room’ established on the 9th floor of the Research and Information Center will provide the latest educational environment utilizing metaverse technology, from experiencing the latest content such as AR (Augmented Reality), VR (Virtual Reality), and XR (Extended Reality). Furthermore, efforts will be made to nurture future talents through operating the ‘Busan Eduwon 2.0’ platform and the Information Gifted Education Center.

To ‘strengthen teachers’ digital capabilities,’ support will be provided to teacher research groups and special research teacher teams, and effective digital education will be realized through educational informatization research competitions and educational material exhibitions. Sharing of teaching and learning materials using the Busan Teaching and Learning Center 2.0 platform and free provision of more than seven types of edutech services will help teachers realize creative digital education.

Moreover, various training programs such as on-site digital capability enhancement job training and training on the use of commercial platforms like Google, Apple, and MS will be offered to improve teachers’ digital-based educational capabilities.

Director Lee Seong-hwan of the Research and Information Center said, “In this era of digital transformation, we will do our best to enable teachers to freely attempt instructional innovation by empathizing with the direction and purpose of educational innovation and cooperating.” He added, “We will actively support various projects tailored to the field’s needs to enhance teachers’ digital capabilities and establish an appropriate environment.”
