The Public Procurement Service (PPS) is placing greater emphasis on integrated support for discovering innovative products, public procurement, and overseas expansion.
On the 10th, PPS held a plaque ceremony for the ‘Innovation Product Support Center’ on Nonhyeon-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, announcing the official start of its activities.
The Support Center will be launched as a private-sector-led specialized institution to provide systematic and professional support for innovative product projects. Utilizing diverse and expert perspectives from the private sector, the Support Center’s role is to assist all processes from discovering innovative products to pioneering public sales channels and expanding overseas in a one-stop manner.
The main tasks include ▲ discovering and recommending innovative products ▲ education, promotion, and consulting for demand institutions and procurement companies ▲ supporting innovative companies’ entry into overseas procurement markets ▲ conducting policy research and investigating overseas cases to activate public procurement of innovative products.
The Support Center will focus on securing efficiency in operating the expanding innovative product projects each year. To operate the Support Center, PPS established the legal basis for operating specialized institutions under the ‘Act on Procurement Business’ and, after external expert review, finally designated the Korea Institute of Public Procurement as the Support Center. The Korea Institute of Public Procurement will serve as the Support Center for three years starting this year.
Lim Gi-geun, Administrator of PPS, said, “The designation of the Support Center is expected to become a foundation for more systematically supporting public procurement of innovative products through private-sector expertise,” adding, “PPS will continue to discover innovative products that support a dynamic economy and spare no effort to help innovative companies leap to become overseas unicorn companies.”
