Operation of Cold Wave Comprehensive Support Situation Room with 34 members from 5 teams and 11 departments during cold wave alerts... Immediate response
Operation of 55 cold wave shelters... Focused management of vulnerable groups
Active promotion of winter safety accident prevention and citizen action guidelines
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) is implementing a "Comprehensive Cold Wave Countermeasure" until March 15 to minimize damage to residents caused by winter cold waves and ensure their safety.
The district operates a comprehensive cold wave support situation room composed of 34 members from 11 departments in 5 teams to respond immediately when a cold wave warning is issued. In case of large-scale damage caused or expected due to the cold wave, a Cold Wave Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters will be formed to strengthen the system for prompt response.
First, various supports have been prepared to protect vulnerable groups from the cold wave. An emergency contact network has been established for 1,955 elderly living alone in the area, with regular visits or phone calls to check on their well-being. Additionally, an intricate safety net has been set up by using IoT devices to monitor the elderly’s condition in real time.
Also, to protect homeless people during winter, support for cold weather supplies, housing assistance, and patrols have been strengthened to safeguard the health and safety of homeless individuals on the streets.
The district has designated 39 senior centers and 16 community service centers as cold wave shelters to provide elderly residents with places to escape the cold. Furthermore, 40 bus stops with high passenger traffic have been equipped with cold shelters, and heated seats have been installed at 184 bus stops to reduce the impact of the cold for citizens using public transportation. Cold weather supplies such as hot packs and heaters are distributed to vulnerable groups to minimize welfare blind spots during winter.
Moreover, the district plans to thoroughly prevent various safety accidents caused by the cold wave, including fire prevention, safety management, and pipe freezing prevention, at facilities such as traditional markets, parks, and gas supply facilities.
In addition, winter safety measures including citizen action guidelines are actively promoted through district newsletters, social media, and text alerts to provide residents with information so they can respond quickly to cold wave situations.
Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, stated, “This comprehensive cold wave countermeasure focuses on prioritizing residents’ safety to minimize damage caused by the cold wave and help everyone have a warm and safe winter.” He added, “I hope all citizens familiarize themselves well with cold wave preparedness guidelines and maintain their health.”
