Jongno-gu "Focusing on Supporting Small Business Owners and Revitalizing the Economy"

January 9 New Year's Meeting... Full Effort to Alleviate Daily Anxiety

Jongno-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) announced on the 10th that it will strive to protect small business owners and self-employed individuals, who are the foundation of the local economy, and to ensure the safety of residents and alleviate daily anxieties.

At the ‘2025 New Year Meeting’ held the day before at Doam Hall of Seoul Arts High School, Jeong Munheon, Mayor of Jongno-gu, introduced the direction of district administration and major projects for the year, stating, “We will protect small business owners and self-employed individuals, who are the roots of the local economy, and work to ensure residents’ safety and relieve daily anxieties.”


Jongno-gu promised to expand support for loan interest subsidies and loans from the Small and Medium Business Development Fund to stabilize management and ease financial difficulties. A repayment deferral system, which allows postponing the repayment of loan principal due dates by up to one year, will also be implemented starting this year.


Additionally, centered on the Jongno Fashion Comprehensive Support Center, which opened on the 7th, the district will work to revitalize the clothing sewing industry, a representative local industry of Jongno, and strengthen competitiveness in the precious metals sector.


A bus fare support policy to realize transportation welfare will also be implemented. This aims to address the need for customized transportation welfare policies due to the increasing elderly population and to prevent safety accidents caused by elderly drivers.


Furthermore, Jongno-gu will focus on various redevelopment projects such as housing redevelopment in the Changsin and Sungin-dong areas and the establishment of the Mogatown plan in Gugi-dong, as well as policy projects to improve residential conditions in low-rise residential areas. Plans also include expanding heated road sections and the Jongno Good Life Challenge for senior citizens.


Mayor Jeong Munheon said, “As always, we will find answers within the lives of our residents,” adding, “This year, we will create more opportunities for communication with residents and recruit resident communication officers representing each generation to build trust and foster emotional bonds.”
