Young Kim, Korean-American, Appointed Chair of the US House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia-Pacific Affairs

Young Kim, a Korean-American three-term U.S. House Representative (Republican·California), was appointed chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee's Subcommittee on East Asia and the Pacific on the 9th (local time).

Brian Mast, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee (Republican·Florida), announced this, introducing Representative Kim as "a fighter who tirelessly works to strengthen America's position in the backyard of the Chinese Communist Party and to promote American leadership worldwide." The East Asia and Pacific Subcommittee oversees the East Asia and Pacific Bureau and related State Department affairs.

Representative Kim stated, "The East Asia and Pacific region is not only America's greatest geopolitical competition area but also home to America's strong allies and partners," adding, "The future of U.S. national security depends on American foreign policy decisions in this region." She further said, "I will work in a bipartisan manner to ensure that the U.S. leads in promoting human rights, supporting freedom-loving countries, strengthening free trade with allies, and holding adversaries accountable in this region."

In the previous 118th Congress, Representative Kim served as vice chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee's Indo-Pacific Subcommittee.
