Mayor Lee Hyun-jae discussed local issues with residents during the dialogue held at the Choi-dong Administrative Welfare Center, including △preparing relocation measures for the Hanam Gwangam apartment complex district △flexible bus operation due to changes in school districts for local elementary and middle schools △the need for traffic measures due to the development of the Gangdong General Industrial Complex.
First, Hanam City stated its position to actively negotiate with LH to reflect living infrastructure facilities such as expanded parking lots and city gas supply requested by residents within the relocation housing complex, so that relocation measures for original residents of Choi-dong can be prepared, given that the Hanam Gwangam apartment complex district has been designated as a site for corporate relocation measures in the Gyo-san New Town.
Regarding bus operations following changes in school districts for local elementary and middle schools, the city conveyed plans to review flexible operations such as reducing bus intervals during school commuting times, as long bus intervals are expected to cause difficulties for students commuting.
Additionally, with concerns about traffic congestion in the Choi-dong area due to the development project of the Gangdong General Industrial Complex, the mayor expressed a commitment to do their best in establishing traffic measures that reflect residents’ opinions.
In response to a question during the Q&A session about resolving issues of concrete mixer dust and noise within the industrial complex, Mayor Lee said, “We plan to form the Choi Win-Win Cooperation Council in January to operate it within the district,” and added, “We will strengthen regular inspections for dust control and deploy dust monitoring personnel.”
Regarding complaints about the lack of booths at village bus stops causing inconvenience, he said, “With the help of Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly member Kim Seong-su, we secured a budget for installing smart shelter bus stops equipped with heating, cooling facilities, and heated seats,” and added, “We will actively consider installing 1 to 2 pilot smart shelter bus stops in Choi-dong.”
Meanwhile, DL Construction, the contractor for Section 12 of the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway passing through Hanam City, held a session to explain the increased transportation convenience resulting from the expressway opening to residents.
On the 1st, a 72.2 km long, six-lane (three lanes each way) section of the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway from the Namanseong Junction (JC) to Namguri Interchange (IC) was opened. This opening shortened the driving distance from Namanseong JC to Namguri IC by approximately 19.8 km (from 92.0 km to 72.2 km) and is expected to reduce travel time by about 49 minutes (from 88 minutes to 39 minutes).
Hanam City’s accessibility to major transportation networks such as the Metropolitan Area 1st Ring Expressway, Olympic-daero, and Gangbyeonbuk-ro has greatly improved through this north-south expressway, making travel to Seoul as well as northern and southern Gyeonggi more convenient.
Specifically, the Hanam City section (7.8 km) includes △Choi IC △Seo Hanam JC △Hanam Gambuk Tollgate. Choi IC connects to Gamcho-ro, where the Hanam Misa industrial area and the corporate relocation complex in Gyo-san district are located, and is adjacent to the Hwangsan-Choi road and Dongnam-ro connecting road, which is expected to significantly improve accessibility to the Gyo-san district. Additionally, the connection between Godeok IC and Misa-daero will enhance transportation convenience for projects promoted by Hanam City such as K-Star World, Camp Colburn, and Gyo-san New Town, playing a positive role in attracting businesses.
Furthermore, improved connectivity with major expressways including the Gyeongbu Expressway and Jungbu Expressway will enhance access to key regions nationwide, positioning Hanam City as a logistics hub and a center for advanced industries.
Meanwhile, since the second half of last year, Hanam City has thoroughly inspected entrances and exits, road signs, and soundproof walls to prevent inconvenience to residents using the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway section from Choi IC to Namhansanseong Tunnel (3.5 km).
In particular, near the Hanam Gambuk Tollgate (Gambuk Bridge) in the Choi-dong Songnim Village area, noise prevention measures were carefully checked on-site to minimize residents’ inconvenience.
Regarding concerns about traffic noise in Songnim Village, Hanam City has continuously requested the Korea Expressway Corporation to raise the height of soundproof walls. Following mediation by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, the height of the soundproof wall along the 280 m section of Songnim Village was increased from 2 m to 3.5 m?4 m, and noise attenuators were installed before opening the expressway.
Going forward, Hanam City plans to continuously inspect the remaining construction sections of the Gam-il 1st Overpass (reconstruction) and Gwangam-ro (substructure road), scheduled for completion in 2025, to create a safe and pleasant road environment for convenient use by residents.
Additionally, the city will continue negotiations with the Korea Expressway Corporation and submit proposals to change the name of Choi IC to Hanam Choi IC as requested by residents.
