Gwangju Office of Education Announces Successful Applicants for Standardized General High Schools

11,060 Students... School Placement Announcement on the 23rd

The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 9th the successful candidates for the standardized general high schools among this year's first-year high school applicants.

According to the Office of Education, this year's percentile ranking for academic records is 97.931%. Out of a total of 11,104 applicants, 11,060 were accepted.

The cutoff for admission to standardized general high schools was determined by the percentile ranking of all applicants compared to the total capacity of the standardized general high schools.

The average number of students per class for new students at standardized general high schools this year decreased from 26 last year to 24.6.

This year's standardized general high school admissions saw changes such as the new designation of autonomous public high schools. In particular, as more students applied to early-admission specialized high schools, the cutoff for standardized general high schools dropped significantly from last year's 91.406% to 97.931%.

The Office of Education explained that at 10 a.m. on the 23rd, the school assignments for successful applicants to standardized general high schools will be announced.

Superintendent Lee Jungseon said, "Assigning new students to regional standardized general high schools is a difficult issue due to imbalances between school levels and differences in preference by school type, but as a result of this announcement, the imbalance among standardized general high schools has been somewhat alleviated. If new schools open in the future, even better results are expected."
