Overnight, up to 29.3cm of heavy snow fell across the entire Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Jeonbuk regions.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 9th, as of 6 a.m. that day, the highest recorded snowfall was 8.6cm at Baegunsan in Gwangyang. This was followed by Yeonggwang with 8.5cm, Jangseong with 8.3cm, Gwangju with 7.5cm, and Wolya (Hampyeong) with 6.3cm.
In Jeonbuk, the snowfall was recorded as 29.3cm at Deogyusan in Muju, 23.1cm at Bokheung in Sunchang, 13.6cm in Jinan, 12.3cm in Jeonju, and 9.7cm in Wanju.
Currently, heavy snow advisories have been issued for Gwangju and the Jeonnam regions of Naju, Damyang, Gokseong, Gurye, Jangseong, Hwasun, Jangheung, Gangjin, Haenam, Yeongam, Muan, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, Mokpo, Shinan, and Jindo.
All 14 cities and counties in Jeonbuk have also been placed under heavy snow advisories.
In Gwangju, two minor injuries from falls (in Sadong and Haengamdong, Nam-gu) occurred from the previous night until dawn, with both individuals transported to the hospital.
No related damage reports have been received in Jeonnam.
In Jeonbuk, the fire department reported a total of 25 incidents, including 3 rescues, 16 emergency medical responses, and 6 safety measures, most of which involved falls and tree removal.
The Jeonbuk provincial government is maintaining Level 1 of its disaster and safety response headquarters, closely monitoring weather conditions.
A Korea Meteorological Administration official said, "In areas where rain or snow is falling, visibility will be low, and as snow accumulates, icy roads and black ice are likely to occur. Please pay close attention to traffic and pedestrian safety, as well as to the risk of facility damage such as collapse of livestock barns, greenhouses, and weak structures."
