The police announced on the 8th that they are investigating 163 malicious posts and videos involving defamation and insults directed at the victims and bereaved families of the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster.
The police are currently promptly initiating investigations on all reports received both online and offline, applying for and executing warrants, and conducting tracking investigations.
The cyber investigation units of the city and provincial police agencies are investigating YouTube channels that create and spread various false and fabricated information in real time.
A police official stated, “Indiscriminate posting of malicious posts and videos online is a serious criminal act,” and added, “We ask that people refrain from spreading rumors and posting malicious content so that the bereaved families do not suffer further.”
