Ulsan's Ulju-gun is gaining momentum in its project to create the Ulju Park Golf Course following the conditional approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Previously, Ulju-gun was selected for a public project involving idle railway land in the Gosan-ri area of Onyang-eup and has been promoting the development of the Ulju Park Golf Course.
This location is conveniently accessible due to its proximity to Namchang Station and is close to Ulju-gun's representative tourist attraction, Oegosan Onggi Village, allowing for potential linkage with the Onggi Festival, which is expected to attract many visitors.
The project site falls within a development-restricted zone managed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, requiring prior consultation with the ministry to proceed.
Accordingly, Ulju-gun began the first round of prior consultations in March last year regarding facilities not reflected in the ministry's development-restricted zone management plan and conducted a total of four consultations by November last year.
Subsequently, on the 7th, the project received conditional approval after being reviewed by the GB (Green Belt) non-reflected facilities preliminary review panel at the Government Complex Sejong.
The main points of consultation included the appropriateness of the park golf course scale (48,630㎥, 36 holes) and safety concerns related to the construction of sports facilities above the cut-and-cover tunnel.
Ulju-gun explained the necessity of 36 holes and addressed facility shortages based on a survey of park golf course users, and completed a railway safety review based on ground investigations in advance, facilitating smooth approval of the agenda.
After supplementing the conditional resolutions, Ulju-gun plans to complete various administrative procedures such as urban planning facility (sports facility) decisions and Korea Railroad Corporation activity permits by the first half of this year and commence construction in July.
An Ulju-gun official stated, “We will do our best to smoothly finalize the agreement with the Korea National Railway Corporation and consultations with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to complete the Ulju Park Golf Course within this year.”
