On-Device Small Language Model-Based Game Characters
Interaction with Game Users
Krafton showcased the AI technology 'CPC (Co-Playable Character)', jointly developed with NVIDIA, at CES 2025, the world's largest electronics and IT exhibition held in Las Vegas, USA.
On the 8th (local time), Lee Kang-wook, head of Krafton's Deep Learning Division, presented the AI collaboration model CPC developed with NVIDIA.
Lee explained, "CPC is a new concept character based on an on-device small language model specialized for gaming (On-device SLM for Gaming) built with NVIDIA's ACE technology. Unlike traditional NPCs (Non Player Characters), CPC interacts and collaborates with users, flexibly understanding and responding to situations."
He added, "Krafton will continue to innovate user experiences by expanding CPC application to various games, including the PUBG IP franchise and inZOI. We plan to accelerate optimization and standardization efforts so that CPC can become a new benchmark in the gaming industry."
At the event, a gameplay demonstration video featuring CPC was also revealed. The PUBG IP franchise video showed 'PUBG Ally,' who engages in everyday conversations with users, devises strategies according to situations, and finely adjusts play styles through advanced operations.
The inZOI video introduced 'Smart Zoi,' a CPC with distinctive personality and emotions like a human, providing a highly immersive and vivid simulation experience through deep interaction with users.
Lee stated, "We believe in the significant changes AI technology will bring to the gaming industry and will continue our long-term partnership with NVIDIA."
