Joe Biden, the 82-year-old President of the United States, welcomed his first great-grandchild just over 10 days before his retirement. This is the first time a sitting U.S. president has become a great-grandfather.

According to NBC News and others, Jill Biden, the president's wife, posted a photo on her Instagram on the afternoon of the 8th (local time) showing President Biden joyfully holding his newborn great-grandson. Jill introduced him by saying, "I am happy to introduce to you our great-grandson, William Brennan Neill IV."
Naomi Biden, the daughter of Hunter Biden, the president’s second son, gave birth to a son at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles (LA) that day. While visiting LA and inspecting wildfire sites, President Biden received a briefing from the fire authorities and confirmed to reporters, "The good news is that I became a great-grandfather today." He initially mentioned "a 10-pound 5-ounce (about 4.67 kg) baby girl" but quickly corrected himself to say "a baby boy."
The White House stated that the Biden couple visited LA on the 6th after visiting the site of the New Orleans vehicle ramming attack, and stopped by the hospital for about 40 minutes to see Naomi and the great-grandchild. An interview with USA Today released that day also included information that Naomi was scheduled to have a cesarean section on January 8. Naomi married Peter Neill at the White House in 2022. NBC News reported that the newborn’s name was inspired by William Neill, the older brother of Peter Neill, who died in a car accident about 15 years ago at the age of 19.
