▲Fire Safety Inspections for 88 Fire-Vulnerable Sites Including Traditional Markets, Nursing Facilities, and Accommodation Facilities
During winter, low temperatures and dry weather increase the use of heating devices and indoor activities, raising the risk of fire outbreaks and casualties.
In response, Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) has formed a 'Fire Vulnerable Facility Safety Inspection Task Force' and proactively conducted safety inspections on 88 facilities that are either heavily used by vulnerable groups or are aging.
The main inspection targets were prioritized as ▲traditional markets ▲nursing facilities and nursing hospitals ▲lodging facilities (with a total floor area of 1,000㎡ or more), which are facilities where large-scale damage is expected in case of fire.
In traditional markets, shops are densely packed in narrow spaces, causing fires to spread rapidly if they occur. Especially, narrow alleys and illegal parking make it difficult for fire trucks to enter quickly, increasing the likelihood of large-scale fires.
The district plans to conduct joint safety inspections with the Gwanak Fire Station on 27 traditional markets and alley-type shopping districts in the area to prevent large fires.
The main inspection items include ▲proper operation of automatic fire extinguishing devices ▲checking circuit breakers within the market ▲proper use and storage of gas facilities ▲and underground fire hydrants.
The district has installed underground fire hydrants at four locations within three markets?Inheon Market, Sinsa Market, and Sinwon Market?to enable initial fire suppression in case of fire outbreaks in traditional markets.
Self-inspections will also be conducted according to the characteristics of each facility at 30 nursing institutions, including elderly medical welfare facilities where rapid evacuation is difficult due to many elderly residents, and 30 lodging facilities.
For some critical facilities, joint inspections with the Gwanak Fire Station will be conducted to enhance the professionalism of the inspections.
If any deficiencies are found during the inspection process, minor issues will be immediately corrected and supplemented on-site, while serious matters will be managed continuously through follow-up measures and re-inspections.
Mayor Park Junhee stated, “Fire is a disaster caused by a moment of carelessness, but it can be sufficiently prevented through prior prevention and careful inspections. We will continue to strive to protect precious lives and property from fire through systematic preventive measures.”
