During the 12·3 Emergency Martial Law, the police leadership suspected of mobilizing police to block the National Assembly and supporting the operation of 'arrest squads' has been brought to trial.
The Special Investigation Headquarters for Emergency Martial Law of the Prosecutor's Office (Head: Park Se-hyun, Chief Prosecutor of Seoul High Prosecutors' Office) on the 8th indicted Police Commissioner Jo Ji-ho and former Seoul Police Commissioner Kim Bong-sik on charges of engaging in important duties related to rebellion and abuse of authority.
Commissioner Jo and others are accused of mobilizing police riot squads during the emergency martial law to block members of the National Assembly from entering the National Assembly building and supporting attempts by the Defense Security Command to arrest key personnel.
The prosecution viewed their actions as inciting riots with the purpose of disrupting the national order and abusing their official authority to compel unnecessary duties, and thus referred the case to trial.
