The meeting, prepared in response to the cold wave warning scheduled to be issued at 9 p.m. that day, was attended by Vice Mayor Park Seong-nam and heads of related departments including the Citizen Safety Division, Welfare Policy Division, Elderly Welfare Division, Climate Energy Division, Urban Agriculture Division, and Waterworks Division.
The attendees thoroughly reviewed practical measures such as protecting vulnerable groups from the cold wave, operating cold wave shelters, facility inspections, and emergency response plans centered on the city’s Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters.
The city immediately operates the ‘Cold Wave Emergency Response Situation Room’ when cold wave advisories and warnings are issued, and minimizes citizen damage through measures prepared by each department.
In particular, to prevent harm to the homeless, frequent patrols are conducted near Uijeongbu Station, with emergency guidance to temporary shelters such as the Hope Recovery Comprehensive Support Center, and support is provided with relief supplies including cold weather gear. For elderly living alone who are vulnerable to natural disasters, the city offers welfare calls and visitation services and actively promotes health management projects for vulnerable groups.
To ensure safe evacuation for citizens, 38 cold wave shelters are operated, and a 24-hour emergency work system is maintained to prepare for water supply accidents such as frozen or burst water pipes and water outages.
Additionally, in case of cold-related illnesses, the city cooperates with five emergency medical institutions?Uijeongbu St. Mary’s Hospital, Uijeongbu Hospital, Uijeongbu Paik Hospital, Chu Hospital, and Uijeongbu Eulji University Hospital?to provide prompt treatment and emergency measures.
Furthermore, fuel support is being expanded for households vulnerable to heating, and inspections of 328 facility greenhouses and 10 livestock farms are being strengthened to support stable operations during winter.
Vice Mayor Park Seong-nam said, “As a record-breaking cold wave is expected, please prepare thoroughly to ensure that departmental measures are implemented without any setbacks,” and added, “We will continue to proactively respond to weather disasters such as cold waves to protect the lives and property of our citizens.”
