The musical "Don Juan," co-produced by France and Canada, will be performed at the Opera Theater of the Seoul Arts Center from April 4 to 13.
The original French team is coming to Korea for the first time in 19 years. The musical "Don Juan" tells the story of the legendary Spanish womanizer Don Juan's life, love, and growth. Don Juan meets numerous women and makes them cry, but he is ultimately abandoned by the one woman he truly loved.
The lead role of Don Juan will be played by Gian Marco Schiaretti, who appeared in the 2021 Korean tour of the musical "Notre-Dame de Paris." The only woman who makes Don Juan fall in love, "Maria," will be portrayed by Laetitia Carrere, a strong talent actively performing on European stages. Don Juan's close friend and advisor, "Don Carlos," will be played by Olivier Dion, who has appeared in musicals such as "The Three Musketeers" and "Hairspray."
The direction is by Gilles Maheu, the director of France's representative musical "Notre-Dame de Paris." The music and adaptation are by Felix Gray, a famous French singer and composer.
Don Juan premiered in Canada in February 2004 and opened in France the following year, attracting 600,000 viewers worldwide. In Korea, the original team visited in 2006, drawing over 30,000 spectators in three weeks. In 2009, it was also produced as a licensed performance and gained popularity. This performance, marking the 20th anniversary of the original work, will showcase a more dazzling show with enhanced technology such as upgraded lighting and a giant LED screen. The uniquely French stylish lighting and splendid costumes, passionate group dances by 17 professional flamenco dancers, and live performances and singing by a gypsy band will provide a spectacular visual feast.
Don Juan is the only Korean tour performance in the first half of this year. Advance ticket sales start at 3 p.m. on the 9th on the Seoul Arts Center website, and the first general ticket sales begin at 3 p.m. on the 10th on Interpark Ticket.
