Surpassing 'Jongi-ui Jip'
‘Squid Game’ Season 2 ranked as the 2nd most popular non-English series in Netflix history just eleven days after its release.
According to Netflix’s official site ‘Netflix Top 10’ on the 8th, during the second week after release, the first week of this month (December 30 to January 5), it was watched for 417.1 million hours. In the first week, the fourth week of last month (December 22 to 29), it was 487.6 million hours.
The total viewing hours recorded in the eleven days since release reached 904.7 million hours. This surpassed ‘La Casa de Papel’ (Money Heist) Season 5, which was previously the 2nd most popular non-English series with 907 million hours. The 1st place is the previous ‘Squid Game’ Season 1, which was watched for 2.3179 billion hours.
‘Squid Game’ Season 2 also led in the number of views when dividing total watch time by the full runtime (7 hours 10 minutes). Following 68 million views in the first week, it recorded 58.2 million views. It topped the non-English TV category as well as overwhelmingly leading the English TV category and both English and non-English film categories. Riding this wave, Season 1 also re-emerged as 2nd place in the non-English TV category (13.6 million views, 112.7 million hours).
‘Squid Game’ Season 2 broke various records even in its first week. In particular, it surpassed the 448.73 million hours set by Season 1 in its first week, establishing itself as the most-watched work. On a weekly basis, it ranks 2nd all-time following Season 1’s 571.76 million hours.
The popularity was not limited to specific countries. It ranked 1st in ninety-three countries including the United States, France, Japan, India, and Australia. In the first week, it was 1st in ninety-two countries.
