Tension over 'Yoon Arrest Warrant Reissuance'... Divided Atmosphere at Pro and Con Rallies

Court Reissues Arrest Warrant for Yoon... Deadline Extended

Tensions are rising at the pro- and anti-impeachment rallies as an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk-yeol has been reissued. At a rally urging the arrest held near the Constitutional Court in Jaedong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, cheers erupted upon the news of the warrant issuance, while the opposing rally was filled with curses and sighs.

On the 7th at around 7 p.m., the Candlelight Action held a candlelight cultural festival near Anguk Station at Yeoldae Songhyeon Green Square, calling for President Yoon's dismissal. Participants waved placards and cheering sticks with slogans such as "Arrest the traitor Yoon Suk-yeol" and "Immediately arrest the top criminal Kim Geon-hee," shouting chants like "Dismiss and imprison Yoon Suk-yeol" and "Disband the traitorous People Power Party."

When reports emerged that the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit had reissued the arrest warrant for President Yoon on charges of treason, the crowd cheered loudly, shouting, "Starting tomorrow, we must remove them all at once as soon as preparations are complete." Approximately 500 people gathered at the candlelight cultural festival, according to unofficial police estimates.

The YouTube channel 'Shinui Hansu' held an anti-impeachment rally at around 5 p.m. on the sidewalk in front of the Senior Welfare Center near Anguk Station. Earlier, participants of a rally hosted by the New Freedom Solidarity, who had been stationed near the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, moved to join this rally near the Constitutional Court.

Rally participants held placards reading "Arrest Lee Jae-myung" and waved the Taegeukgi and the U.S. flag. Upon hearing the news of the extension of the arrest warrant period, sighs and curses broke out. Approximately 2,000 people gathered at the pro-Yoon rally, according to unofficial police estimates. They planned to move near the presidential residence to continue the rally.

Yoon Sang-hyun, a member of the People Power Party, took the stage here and claimed that the National Assembly's impeachment prosecution team was trying to exclude treason from the grounds for impeachment. He added, "Isn't this fundamentally a 'fraudulent impeachment' and an 'invalid impeachment'?" and said, "The Constitutional Court judges must not become a subordinate agency of the Democratic Party."
