Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon expressed his condolences on the 7th after paying respects to former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at the end of last year, calling him "a person who was particularly devoted to human rights and peace in Korea" and saying, "It was a day that made me think a lot."
In a post on his social media service (SNS) that day, Governor Kim said, "I paid my respects to former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on December 29 last year (on the 7th)," and evaluated, "Former President Carter was the first U.S. president to provide new opportunities to socially disadvantaged groups such as women and people of color and to respond to the climate crisis."
Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province posted the following text and photo on his SNS on the 7th.
He especially noted, "Our people remember his special dedication to peace and democracy on the Korean Peninsula," and added, "After signing the condolence book, I met with the charg? d'affaires and counselors of the U.S. Embassy in Korea to discuss the strong Korea-U.S. alliance, democracy, and Korea's resilient recovery."
He continued, "Honoring former President Carter, who was particularly devoted to human rights and peace in Korea, it was a day that made me think a lot about our current situation."
