The Presidential Office announced on the 7th that it has filed a false accusation charge against Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, and other related Democratic Party members.
This is a countermeasure in response to the Democratic Party's Legal Committee filing charges on the 3rd against Chief Presidential Secretary Jeong Jin-seok, National Security Office Director Shin Won-sik, Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs Kim Joo-hyun, Deputy Director of the Security Office In Seong-hwan, and Defense Secretary Choi Byung-ok for alleged insurrection.
The Presidential Office explained, "The five individuals mentioned above neither conspired in advance to declare martial law nor conducted any legal review related to martial law."
It added, "The accused reported false facts to the Corruption Investigation Office for the Purpose of Prosecution (CIOP) with the intent to subject them to criminal punishment, severely damaging not only individuals but also the honor of the Presidential Office, which constitutes the crime of false accusation."
Furthermore, the Presidential Office stated, "We strongly express our regret over the Democratic Party's dissemination of false information and acts of false accusation."
