Jongno-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) announced on the 7th that it has been providing a ‘Reward for Reporting Violations of Mobility and Convenience Facilities for the Disabled’ since this year to offer convenience to mobility-vulnerable groups such as the disabled and to promote a culture of safety within the district.

Jongno-gu Offers Rewards for Reporting Violations of Mobility and Convenience Facilities for Disabled Persons Jongno-gu Temporary Office Building Exterior. Provided by Jongno-gu.

The reporting targets are ‘public buildings’ used for public purposes such as government offices and schools, and ‘public-use facilities’ such as performance halls, academies, wedding halls, and large supermarkets used by an unspecified number of people.

Anyone can report to the district social welfare department by visiting, mail, or fax if they find that mobility and convenience facilities for the disabled are not installed, have lost functionality, or are damaged within the relevant facilities. At this time, an application form including supporting photos must be submitted.

The district plans to pay a reward of 50,000 KRW in cash or gift certificates per case after receiving the report and conducting an on-site inspection. Up to 500,000 KRW per individual per year can be paid, and if two or more people report the same violation, the reward will be given only to the first reporter. If the report is false, recovery measures may be taken.

When a facility is determined to be in violation, Jongno-gu takes corrective actions according to the ‘Convenience Act for the Disabled, etc.’ The corrective orders include installation, management, repair, and improvement of convenience facilities targeted at the facility owner.

District Mayor Jeong Munheon stated, “Based on citizens’ voluntary reports and participation, we intend to thoroughly re-examine public buildings and public-use facilities that do not provide convenience to mobility-vulnerable groups.” He added, “We will continue to strive to improve residents’ quality of life and provide convenience that can be felt in daily life.”
