Minister Kim Munsu: "We Must Minimize Damage from Heavy Snowfall"
As a cold wave warning is expected to be issued in most parts of the country, the Ministry of Employment and Labor will take safety management measures to prevent damage to workers and workplaces caused by heavy snow and cold waves.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced that from the 7th to the 10th, when heavy snow and cold waves are forecasted, the headquarters, local offices, and the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency will be on emergency duty. During this period, they will inform workplaces of regional weather conditions and safety guidelines in real time through social networking services (SNS), official documents, and conduct inspections.
Starting from the previous day in the Honam and Jeju regions, heavy snowfall is expected nationwide until the 10th. In particular, the Jeonbuk region is expected to receive more than 40cm of snow. The Ministry explained that a cold wave warning is anticipated in most parts of the country.
Minister Kim Munsu of the Ministry of Employment and Labor instructed all local employment and labor offices and the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency nationwide to take preemptive measures related to worker and workplace safety management, as there was damage such as facility collapses due to record-breaking heavy snow in the metropolitan area last November.
Minister Kim emphasized minimizing workplace damage caused by heavy snow, saying, "Before the snow falls, thoroughly reinforce temporary structures that are prone to collapse." He continued, "Thoroughly inspect on-site measures such as stopping outdoor work that involves risks of collapse or falling, and controlling access to hazardous areas."
He also urged, "Heavy snow can lead to the collapse of roofs and facilities, so during snow removal work, the risk of collapse must be checked in advance to prevent casualties, and vigilance must not be relaxed."
