Reading Campaign Continues for 8 Months Until the End of August
Gwangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Bang Se-hwan) announced on the 7th that it will operate the 2025 "Happy Gwangju Reading Marathon" campaign to promote reading.
The "Happy Gwangju Reading Marathon" is a reading campaign that combines reading with a marathon course, converting the amount of reading into distance and completing the registered course. It will continue for about eight months until the end of August.
Anyone who is a regular library member from elementary school students and above can participate through the dedicated reading marathon page on the library website. Participants can choose their desired course by category (elementary students, general, family) and register a reading log of the books read during the campaign period. The number of pages of the books will be converted into the distance run.
Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate, along with benefits such as an increased number of book loans for one year following the next year and exemption from late fees three times. Outstanding participants in each category will be selected and awarded the Gwangju Mayor's Award.
A library official stated, "We hope that many citizens will participate in the reading marathon again this year to experience the sense of achievement in reaching their goals and to newly discover the joy of reading."
