Stinging and Growing After First Dose
Cause Not Found... Surgery Performed
"Vaccine Link Requires Further Study"
A woman in Canada experienced a fourfold increase in breast size after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to a report by the British Daily Mail on the 6th (local time), a 19-year-old woman in Canada experienced a side effect where her breasts grew four times larger within six months after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine in September 2022. At that time, she received two doses of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine, which was the most widely used. Right after the first dose, her breasts began to enlarge accompanied by a tingling sensation, and these symptoms worsened after the second dose. Six months after completing the vaccination, her breast size had increased nearly fourfold, from a B cup to a triple G cup.
The woman was generally healthy with no significant underlying conditions. CT scans showed some swelling of the lymph nodes around the armpits and dense blood vessels, which were presumed to be caused by the enlargement of breast tissue. Medical professionals who examined her suspected that the sudden breast enlargement might be due to pseudoangiomatous stromal hyperplasia (PASH). PASH is a benign proliferative non-tumorous lesion occurring in the breast, characterized by benign proliferation of stromal cells caused by hormonal changes. It is known that fewer than 200 cases of PASH have been reported worldwide.
The medical team treated her with steroids and antibiotics, but the symptoms persisted. Unable to identify a definitive cause, they ultimately decided on surgery. The woman underwent breast reduction surgery through plastic surgery 11 months after vaccination. However, her breasts did not return to their previous size; post-surgery, her breast size reduced from a triple G cup to a double D cup. The size did not increase further.
Experts stated, "This is the first case linking PASH with the vaccine, but it cannot be definitively concluded as the cause," adding, "Some studies suggest that the COVID-19 vaccine can stimulate an immune response causing temporary swelling of lymph nodes, which may make the breasts appear larger." They also emphasized that "further research is needed regarding the potential association with the COVID-19 vaccine."
Meanwhile, in 2021, researchers at the University of Pennsylvania reported that the COVID-19 vaccine can cause lymph node swelling, which may lead to abnormalities detected in mammography and breast ultrasound examinations. However, they added that this is a normal response to the COVID-19 vaccine and is not a cause for concern.
