"Heavy Snow Expected Until the 10th: Gwangju City Mobilizes All Resources for Snow Response" Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijeong is attending the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters meeting held at the city hall disaster situation room on the morning of the 7th. Gwangju City is making every effort to respond to heavy snowfall, as more than 20cm of snow is forecasted in the Gwangju area by the 10th.

According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration's forecast on the 7th, snow began to fall in Gwangju early this morning and is expected to continue until the morning of the 10th, with accumulations of 5 to 15cm, and more than 20cm in some areas.

In response to this weather outlook, the city has decided to promptly check and implement measures for snow removal and safety, including reviewing ongoing preparations for heavy snow. In particular, since the snowfall is expected to last for a long period, increasing the risk of collapse and accidents, the city has established an organic cooperation system with local districts, major snow removal agencies such as the Second Ring Road, the police, and fire departments.

In the event of heavy snowfall, the city plans to actively utilize private snow removal equipment such as graders (large snow plows) and mobilize all available equipment, supplies, and personnel from related agencies to ensure rapid and effective snow removal, including the use of small snow removal machinery.

With strong cold also forecasted, the city is checking on vulnerable groups at risk of cold-related illnesses and is promoting tips to reduce slip-and-fall accidents on icy roads. In addition, officials and citizens are being encouraged to participate in a campaign to clear snow in front of homes and shops.

On this day, a joint "Heavy Snow Countermeasure Review Meeting" was held in the disaster response meeting room, presided over by Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs Ko Gwangwan, with related departments and the five local districts, to review measures by sector to minimize casualties and disaster damage from heavy snow and cold waves.

Vice Mayor Ko Gwangwan said, "As a lot of snow is expected this week, I ask citizens to use public transportation as much as possible for commuting and to refrain from unnecessary outdoor activities. In particular, I hope everyone will actively participate in the campaign to clear snow in front of homes and shops with a mature sense of civic responsibility."
