According to Uijeongbu City on the 7th, the city has consulted with the Ministry of National Defense to convert approximately 20,000㎡ of land at Camp Kyle in Geum-o-dong and the 306 Supplementary Unit site in Yonghyeon-dong into a temporary parking lot exclusively for large vehicles (230 spaces), which began operation on the 1st.
This parking lot accommodates cargo vehicles over 2.5 tons and passenger vehicles with 16 seats or more. It is expected to alleviate large vehicle parking difficulties while improving various inconveniences such as noise and exhaust reduction and preventing safety accidents caused by illegal overnight parking.
Until now, Uijeongbu has suffered from a severe shortage of parking lots dedicated to large vehicles, leading to widespread illegal parking throughout the city, threatening citizen safety and causing ongoing complaints about noise and exhaust.
To address these issues, since the 8th administration, the city has focused on creating temporary parking lots by utilizing public idle lands such as military, railway, and park areas.
The currently established temporary parking lots for large vehicles include six locations (totaling 446 spaces): the planned site of La Guardia Sports Park, the outer road of the Yonghyeon-dong industrial complex, under the overpass in front of Kyungmin University, Nokyang-dong Sports Complex, Camp Kyle, and the 306 Supplementary Unit, contributing to reducing illegal parking of large vehicles in residential areas.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun stated, “Our citizens have long suffered not only from noise and exhaust damage but also from safety risks due to the widespread illegal parking of large vehicles in residential areas and roads. Moving forward, we will expand large vehicle parking infrastructure and simultaneously enforce strict illegal parking crackdowns to create urban spaces where citizens can always walk and stay safely and comfortably.”
Citizens wishing to use the large vehicle parking lots can inquire at Uijeongbu Urban Corporation or apply through the reservation system.
