Confidence in Resolving Key Issues Such as the Asan Branch of the National Police Hospital
People Power Party's Jeon Mankwon, preliminary candidate for mayor of Asan, Chungnam, declares his candidacy at the city hall briefing room on the 7th.
Jeon Mankwon, a preliminary candidate for Asan Mayor in South Chungcheong Province from the People Power Party, stated on the 7th, "The by-election to be held on April 2 is to elect a crisis management mayor, and I am the expert for that role."
On this day, Jeon held a press conference at the city hall briefing room, expressing his confidence in crisis management and resolving pending issues.
He said, "I decided to run to calm the political turmoil in Asan and to restore administrative normalcy," adding, "I will approach this with the mindset of Hyehyeongyeongjang, which means replacing the strings of a geomungo."
He emphasized his expertise in crisis management by mentioning his experience working at the Central Safety Disaster Situation Room of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and his leadership in the field as Vice Mayor of Cheonan during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Jeon stated, "This election is for a remaining term of about one year, and the budget has already been set," adding, "Rather than making excessive pledges, I will focus on administrative continuity and devote myself to public safety and revitalizing the local economy."
Regarding regional imbalance and outflow of local income, he said, "I will work together with civil servants, merchants, and other stakeholders to come up with solutions."
On major issues, he noted, "There are concerns that the number of beds at the Asan branch of the National Police Hospital may decrease during the preliminary feasibility study," and argued, "If I utilize my political skills and experience to establish it as a disaster hub hospital, we may actually secure even more beds."
Meanwhile, this by-election is being held as former Asan Mayor Park Kyungkwi of the People Power Party lost his position after being sentenced to a fine of 15 million won for violating the Public Official Election Act.
