Climate Companion Card's Everyday 'Mini Insurance' Service
Disaster Fracture Diagnosis Fee, 100,000 KRW for Cast Treatment
Expansion from Cultural Facility Links to Disaster Coverage
From now on, users of the 'Mobile Climate Companion Card' will be able to enroll in insurance that provides coverage in case of accidents or disasters in daily life free of charge. This includes accident diagnosis fees and treatment costs that may occur while using public transportation.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 7th that starting from the 8th, it will support the enrollment of Mobile Climate Companion Card users in the 'Climate Companion Card Mini Insurance.' The coverage period is one year after enrollment. The insurance is jointly operated by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, T-money Co., Ltd., and Kyobo Lifeplanet Insurance.
The Climate Companion Card, hailed as an innovation in public transportation, is a subscription pass that allows unlimited use of public transportation such as subways and buses within Seoul, as well as Ddareungi bike-sharing, with a one-time fare recharge (62,000 KRW, or 65,000 KRW including Ddareungi). Since its launch, it has offered benefits reflecting citizens' requests, including youth discounts (7,000 KRW off per month), short-term passes (1, 2, 3, 5, 7-day passes), credit card recharge and postpaid options, as well as various discounts for cultural facility admissions.
Currently, the Climate Companion Card can be used not only within Seoul but also in outlying areas such as Gimpo, Gwacheon, Goyang, Namyangju, and Guri. Agreements have been made with Incheon, Gunpo, Uijeongbu, and Seongnam, and specific business promotion is under discussion.
The newly added Climate Companion Card Mini Insurance service is a form of mini insurance (small-amount short-term insurance) that selectively covers specific risks. The main coverage includes ▲accident fracture diagnosis fees (excluding tooth fractures) ▲cast treatment costs (excluding splints) ▲compensation for injuries caused by violent crimes, which are risks that may occur to Climate Companion Card users who primarily use public transportation.
The coverage details include up to 20 million KRW for 'compensation for injuries caused by violent crimes,' 100,000 KRW for 'accident fracture (excluding tooth fracture) diagnosis fees,' and 100,000 KRW for 'cast (excluding splint) treatment costs.' Eligible applicants are those who have completed card issuance and recharge among Mobile Climate Companion Card users. After 00:00 on the 8th, when issuing or recharging the Mobile Climate Companion Card, a popup window will appear allowing users to choose whether to enroll in the insurance.
After enrollment, if an event covered by the insurance occurs, users can claim insurance benefits through the Kyobo Lifeplanet Insurance customer center website or app. The insurance company will review the submitted claim and pay diagnosis fees or consolation money according to the coverage details. The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to initially offer the mini insurance service as a pilot to Mobile Climate Companion Card users and, after reviewing enrollment trends and effectiveness, expand the service to physical and postpaid card users.
Yeo Jang-kwon, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government Transportation Office, stated, "The Climate Companion Card has established itself as an essential item in citizens' daily lives by providing youth discounts, various pass types, cultural facility linkages, and now insurance services that cover users' daily risks. We will continue to do our best to strengthen various services to lead changes in mobility and daily life beyond convenience."
